Author of Conceptual Physics and frequent contributor to The Physics Teacher

The annual Spring Meeting of the Florida Section of the American Association of Physics Teachers (FL-AAPT) is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, April 4-5 2003 at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg.

Friday evening’s featured speaker is Paul Hewitt: “Rules of Nature.” Paul Hewitt is a frequent contributor to The Physics Teacher (look for the “Hewitt DrewIt” cartoons) and the author of Conceptual Physics. Registration will begin at 6:30 pm in the President’s Dining Room, Eckerd College followed by dinner and then the featured speaker, Paul Hewitt.

 Saturday morning registration (for those not able to attend on Friday) will open at 8:00 am. The morning session will begin with presentations by participants focusing on tools for physics teaching. Participants are encouraged to share favorite demonstrations, teaching techniques for the laboratory, uses of technology in teaching, and other resources for physics teaching.

 After a picnic lunch by the Bay (weather permitting), participants will have an opportunity to participate in two workshops:

· “Cartoon Physics” with Paul Hewitt
· Physlets: interactive java applets for physics instruction” with Anne J. Cox

The meeting is open to all high school, community college, and university physics teachers and their guests.
